The Caveman Diet is a nutritional approach and a modern version of the diet of Paleolithic people. Dieters can have vegetables and fruit and sources of protein such as eggs and nuts. Proponents claim that this is a healthy diet that helps prevent chronic inflammations, heart problems, and heart attack.

The diet emphasizes eating healthy food that is low in sugar and salt. People on the Paleo Diet should try to include lean poultry, game, rabbit, and goat meat, nuts, and vegetables. Dieters can choose from different types of meat, including London broil, top sirloin steak, and chuck steak. Meat such as sausages, bacon, and hot dogs should be avoided. The menu of dieters should include fish such as eel, drum, scrod, and rockfish. Flatfish, for example, contains no sugar, saturated fat, and trans fat and is an excellent source of vitamin B12, potassium, phosphorus, and protein. The menu of dieters also includes fish meat such as haddock, turbot, and tuna. Perch is a source of selenium, vitamin B12, and manganese but is high in cholesterol. Shark meat is also packed with important nutrients such as selenium, protein, and vitamin B12 and B6 but is high is cholesterol.

People on the Paleolithic Diet should consume more seeds and nuts such as sunflower and sesame seeds, pecans, and cashews. Nuts are buttery, crunchy, and tasty and are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Nuts and seeds reduce the risk for stroke, coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure. Nuts also contain minerals such as fluoride, iron, and calcium. Essential mineral like Potassium is an element of the body’s cell fluids.

Dieters can have limited amounts of walnut oil, tea, and coffee. Other foods should be avoided altogether, and these include all processed grains. The diet excludes foods such as sorghum, white and brown rice, and barley. The menu of dieters excludes foods such as millet, wild rice, pizzas, and crackers. People on the Paleolithic Diet should stay away from pastries such as waffles, cookies, and rolls. People on the Paleo Diet should avoid vegetables that contain starches. While starchy vegetables contain important minerals and nutrients they cause blood sugar levels to rise. Dieters should avoid vegetables such as yams and potatoes, including chips and French fries. In addition, it is best to avoid processed foods and products that are high in salt. Most condiments and salad dressings that you can buy in the stores contain salt. Processed and deli meats are high in salt, and consumption should be limited. In addition to these foods, the menu excludes fatty meats like lamb roasts and chops and chicken and turkey wings, thighs, and skin. Salted spices and pickled foods should be avoided as well. In addition, dieters should avoid candies, cakes, sugar, and soft drinks with added sugar. Fruit juices, sweets, and soft drinks have a high glycemic index value and are laden with sugar.
